Campus Character.

When walking around a college campus in Oregon there is something you don’t see very often: cowboy boots.

But there is one girl you can find walking around a college campus in Oregon in cowboy boots.

Just about everyday.

She has just a few pairs and has really created a style and personal look for herself.

Name: Christine Swanson

Year: Senior

Major: Studio Art

Hobbies:

“Hanging out with friends, making new friends, going on adventures, painting, woodworking, pottery, hiking, horseback riding, gardening, talking about Jesus, singing, sunflowers, playing guitar, line-dancing, going on joy-rides in my pickup through the country, painting my nails, fishing, camping, and anything you can do outdoors!”

Who or what inspires you?

“I am inspired by the beautiful simple things in life; the colors of fall, a good conversation with a friend, being in God’s incredible creation.  I am also inspired by genuine people and I love hearing their stories.”

Where do you like to shop?

“I love shopping at Anthropology and Urban Outfitters (when there is a sale rack), but I also love the treasure hunt of finding great things at thrift stores like Goodwill.  I like the challenge of looking nice without draining my bank account.  After all, I am a poor college student!”

Where is your outfit from?

Shirt: Urban Outfitters
Jeans: Francesca’s
Boots: Goodwill
Rings: Saturday market and rejects from Grandma’s collection
How would you describe your personal style?
“I love cowgirl boots (I have seven pairs) and flannel.  I suppose I have a “country” kind of style.  I also love to be comfortable but look nice at the same time.  When it comes to jewelry I stick to wearing rings and I have quite the collection!  When it is warmer outside sundresses and sandals are my friend.  Also you cant go wrong with lace!  Love that stuff.”
Why did you choose this outfit?
“I chose this outfit because it is comfortable and I feel good wearing it.  Flannel, boots and a scarf feel nice on a cold day.  There’s no way I am gonna catch a cold this fall!!  I also wear three to four rings at a time on an average day, so if I got in a fight… I’d win.”
Who are your favorite designers?

I really love Anthropology.  If I could only wear clothes from one store for the rest of my life this would be the store hands down!”
Any favorite trends?

I love that cowgirl boots are in now.  I have always loved them so it is a bonus that they are actually in style now!!”
If you could raid anyone’s closet who’s would it be?

“Anna Bramson’s closet.  This girl has got style.  If I had to have a plan B I would go with raiding my sister Breanne’s closet because she is quite the fashionista herself and her closet is twice the size of mine.  You better believe there’s some gold in there.”
I had nothing to do with that last answer…for the record.
It’s really what she said.

Like I said, she just has a few pairs…

Cowboy boots are great boots for fall. They can be layered over denim, tights, leggings.
You can also add a pair of fun boot socks for a little more sass.
Your options are endless.
They are also durable shoes; sure to keep your feet dry walking across a wet campus.
The Flannel

Who doesn’t like a good flannel?!

You can never go wrong layering a flannel for extra warmth on these cool fall days.
Paring it with a good denim pant; it’s it a win/win.
It’s also a perfect look for Christine’s love for the outdoors.
A good flannel makes me think of camping, roasting marshmallows and having a good time with friends.
The accessories

I’m  a huge fan of rings.
Hand bling.
These turquoise rings add a pop of color to Christine’s outfit.
Adding a little bit of personality to any outfit can be achieved by using some fun accessories.

Christine’s love for nature and the great outdoors is evident in her choice of outfit.
It makes me want to curl up in front of a bonfire or go for a good hike with friends.
I think  everyone should just start wearing cowboy boots.
Well maybe not everyone.
Don’t want to get ahead of myself here.
Anyways, it’s Halloween friends!
Go out and have a fun and safe night.
Stay stylish and things of that nature…
XOXO

Campus Character.

With the fog rolling in, the reality of the gray days here in Oregon are becoming more of a reality.

I knew this day would come, but I was hoping to post pone it for as long as possible.

But when I saw Chloe wearing a pair of shorts, it gave me hope that maybe the sun would stick around a while longer.

Or at least we could all have some wishful thinking.

Because after all, who doesn’t like that?!

Name: Chloe Shostak

Year: Junior

Major: Major in Studio Arts with a Minor in Fashion

Hobbies: “I love being outside–bike riding, swimming, or hiking. I also love to read and to draw. Mostly I love to laugh.”

Who or what inspires you? “I’m inspired by the world around me whether it be the beautiful natural life or different cultures from around the world.”

Where do you like to shop? “I don’t have a specific place or places I love to shop. I mostly just am always looking for that piece that really draws my attention, and that piece could be anywhere. It could be a thrift store, my mom’s closet, Anthroplogie, Forever 21, Target–just anywhere. But I always love a good deal!”

Tell me about your outfit. Where is it from? “My outfit is from a bunch of different places. The sweater used to be my great aunt’s from the 1950’s. The shirt is from Free People, and the shorts are from Madewell. The shoes are from Target.”

How would you describe your personal style? “My personal style is really just whatever I’m in the mood for. There are days I feel fancy, and that’s how I dress. There are days that I feel grungy, and that is exactly how I convey myself to the world through dress. I can’t say that I have pinpointed an exact style because so many types inspire me.”

Why did you choose this outfit? “I chose this outfit because I really like the golden yellow and the light blue together. As for the shorts, there are just days when I really want to wear shorts–even if it is really cold!” 🙂

Who are your favorite designers? “My favorite designers are Mara Hoffman for her fantastic mix of prints and Elie Saab because I think he has exquisitely simple designs that are beautifully embellished.”

Any favorite trends? “I can’t recall any favorite trends. I just see what’s out there and do it if I like it.”

If you could raid anyone’s closet who’s would it be? “I would raid… Audrey Hepburn’s closet. So simple and so classy and so much Givenchy! I would also raid an Indian woman’s closet. Is that weird? The saris are just too wonderfully colorful!”

 The Boots

These boots have some attitude to them.

They aren’t your moms old boots.

They sort of have a cowgirl vibe with some edge.

The Cardigan, Shirt and Shorts

So her awesome cardigan caught my attention with the awesome detailing.

The gems give it a playful touch and really give it a unique feel.

I don’t know anyone else who has that cardigan.

I am a fan of the golden yellow color. Really fun for Fall.

And did I say it was vintage! How cool!

Straight from the 1950’s. So classic.

The cardigan is a great layering piece over the stripped top.

Stripes are always a good choice in my book.

You can pair stripes with solid colors and add some pattern to your look.

The frayed denim shorts give it a relaxed feel; and denim goes with anything.

Chloe says her style is whatever she is in the mood for that day; and I think this day she rocked it.

Super fun colors, prints, and jewels.

You can’t go wrong with jewels.

I want to go out and find my and embellished cardigan.

Or I’ll just go buy a plain one and bedazzle it myself.

Bedazzle…such a great word.

Anyways, it’s Friday.

Gotta get down on Friday.

Stay stylish and things of that nature…

XOXO

Campus Character.

Despite the drab weather we experienced Wednesday, I was pleased to find Racsan looking fashionable despite the elements we Oregonians have come to know and love.

Some love it more than others.

Here in Oregon, we don’t fear the rain; we embrace it.

Because let’s face it, it’s not going anywhere.

Get the low down…

Name: Racsan Limbauan

Year: Sophomore

Major: Fashion Design Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Hobbies:  longboarding, adventuring (in nature), watching movies and hanging out, playing the piano, being crafty.

Who or what inspires you: Art and design inspire me- beautiful views and people with bold taste.

Where do you like to shop:  I’d love to shop at places like free people, Nordstrom, urban outfitters and Tilly’s. but since I’m on a college budget I find myself mostly at Forever 21 as well as local thrift stores and Plato’s Closet.

Tell me about your outfit, where is it from: My outfit is a product of thrifting- the sweater is from Liberty Thrift in my hometown and the dress (Rue 21) and shoes (Steve Madden) come from Plato’s closet. The bag is from Forever 21.

How would you describe your personal style: Depending on what activities I’m doing dictates my style- doing sports or long boarding I throw on athletic shorts and a t-shirt but other than that it’s whatever I’m feeling for the day or however I change up something I already have. I don’t know how I’d describe it…lately I feel like it’s more simplistic and earthy. It could also be described as original because I do buy clothes just so that I can hem them up or cut off sleeves etc. and alternate them to be what I envision when I see them in the store.

Why did you choose this outfit:  I mainly chose this outfit because it was what I was wearing at the time you asked to take the picture. I like to wear dresses whenever I can because they’re so easy to put on and move around in. An easy thing to throw a sweater over in cold weather and still have it looking cute.

Any favorite trends right now: Love the trends of spring- all of the colorful light muted colors- and then when lace is added…! Just lace trends in general- most recent is lace on back of shirts, etc.
If you could raid anyone’s closet who’s would it be: Lauren Conrad (casual-everyday) or Princess Diana’s (formal- looking for a night out).
 The dress.

This feminine floral print dress is a great piece to transition from Summer to Fall. The earthy tones in the print draw in Fall colors and the pairing with the cardigan gives Racsan the warmth she may need walking from class to class on campus.
The boots.

The caramel color of these epic combat boots compliment nicely with the warm colors in her dress.
It’s also a nice contrast to pair a “tougher” boot with a girly dress.

The bag.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

This little cross body bag from Forever 21 is the perfect everyday purse.
It’s neutral tone allows it to go with just about any outfit Racsan can come up with while also being practical.
I think Racsan’s love for earthy simplistic pieces really showed in her outfit of choice.
Her floral print dress was full of earthy warm tones and she paired it nicely with neutral boots and cross body bag.

She even made it Oregon appropriate and layered it with a cardigan.
I’m so glad it’s sweater weather.
I hope to see some awesome sweaters on campus.
The bigger the better.
Stay stylish and things of that nature…
XOXO
